Web Poll reveals majority against green power costs

Going green may come at a price The Farmington City Council is reviewing the recommended charge for green power, which is based on the premise that part of local customers' electric bills pay for fixed costs such as power lines and power plants, according to a consultant's report on the costs of service, which was provided by R.W. Beck.

Fixed costs are higher in Farmington partly because the city built and owns it own power plants. All feed, however stay in Farmington, and most profits are re invested to reduce customer rates.

Customers interested in using green power and who might consider purchasing only a portion of their electricity from the city utility may have to pay a higher fee to help recoup the money for the utility company.

However, a majority of people who voted on the Daily Times' most recent Web poll were against the proposed increase.
