Every decision that is made for the City of Farmington must take into account the impact on our workforce. In a difficult economy our first priority must be to maintain our commitment to our city employees — I will fight to protect the jobs of each of our high-quality employees because our success or failure depends directly upon them. Our employees are our strength in every aspect of the City’s operations, and they must be our absolute priority.
Though I am optimistic for the long-term that our economy will bounce back, we still need to plan for tight budgets now. Read more at the Issues.
While prioritizing jobs, we must not lose sight of ways to reinvest in ourselves such that we create new possibilities. I believe we should dedicate existing tax revenue to several notable local projects:
- First, we should direct a portion of gross receipts taxes toward a extensive reinvestment in our downtown. I’d like to see a major overhaul on our civic center if not a new one. We must have the facilities to accommodate modern day conventions. This will also go a long way towards revitalization of the downtown.
- Next, we should identify and dedicate reasonable funding toward building a new animal shelter. The situation has gone beyond the tipping point and the travesty is unbearable.
- Lastly, we can never forget our basic infrastructure like roads and public safety. The time has past for construction of the Pinon Hills Bridge and our fire stations are stretched too thin. It will take innovation to accomplish these goals, but they must continue to be a top priority for the City’s capital investment plan to move forward.
