Jason Sandel Farmington City
Councilor
I’ve thoroughly considered a run
for New Mexico’s Third Congressional District and am convinced that
what I am doing now is too important to me, my family, our business
and to the community to support a run for Congress.
There is little question that
politics is in my blood. And, from those whom I love most I have
heard and felt nothing but encouragement, and for that I am
grateful. The support of my loved ones helps me as I will continue
to pursue my passion of representing our community. Even still, I
experienced the loss of a loved one the day after Thanksgiving.
Enduring this experience provided me with a fresh perspective on my
personal life in that it reinforced the importance of spending
quality time with my family. I know that my time with those I love
is relatively short and I really don’t want to squander it.
Additionally, my family constraints are even more paramount at this
time as my daughter is just six years old and I have a son is due in
February.

Sandel Running For Congress??
In 2006 I ran for City Council to serve Farmington not as a
stepping stone to some higher office. While community service may
take many different shapes in the future; there is plenty of time
for something more and greater later. But right now, I think of the
work that I’m doing as more and great. We’ve made progress, but
there is so much more to do. I do not believe that this chapter in
Farmington’s history has been written yet, and I have a commitment
to our community to help write this chapter.
The notion of running for Congress began due to a call from some
prominent leaders within the Democratic Party, and as time moved
forward I become excited about this opportunity. Further
encouragement to run came from many people in San Juan County and
elsewhere around New Mexico. Ultimately, I am proud to say that
fulfilling the commitments I have made on a variety of fronts
prevents me from running, but I am quite flattered to be thought of
in this way.
